Numerical Computing (3 credits)
An introduction to the classical techniques of numerical analysis: root finding, approximation, interpolation, integration and the solution of systems of equations. A thorough discussion of problems of error and of floating and fixed point computation. Emphasis on both implementation and analysis of the algorithms used. Students are expected to solve a number of numerical problems using the computer. (Primarily for applications of interest to students in biology, chemistry, economics, engineering, applied mathematics, physics, and psychology.)
