Description: Create new species using Species Editor.

Actor: Biology Professor.

Entry Condition : Open the Species Editor to build a new species.

Exit Condition : Newly created species saved.

Used in scenarios:

          Build new species.

User Action

System Response

1. User indicates that wants to create a new species in the Species Editor.

2. System pre-loads the list of phenotypes on the right panel and on the left panel it pre-loads the template proteins for the alleles.

3. User selects an protein from the list provided on left panel. 4. System highlights the selected protein and displays the forms fields to enter restrictions for the single protein selection.
5. User fills out restrictions fields for selected protein.
6. User then selects a phenotype to be assigned. 7. System highlights the selected phenotype.
8. User clicks save species button. 9. System responds with success
10. User repeats step 3-8, creating multiple homozygous species.
11. User repeats step 3, but this time selects proteins to make up a heterozygous pair of alleles. 12. System highlights the 2 selected proteins.

13. User repeats steps 6-8

Alternatives:

Exceptions:

bullet

If restrictions are missing the system will throw an error and species will not be saved.

Comments:

Rationale:

bullet

User creates six floribunda phenotypes for this semester's MGX. System saves the image in 3 different sizes into species folder. The full size image is pre-loaded into MGX Species Editor, thumbnail size is to populate in history list and small size to indicate positive a match when used in the Biochemistry module.

bullet

Use designs template protein using the Protein Investigator. System saves the amino acid sequence.
