For all courses, the department uses 3 Sunfires and operates a network of approximately 225 machines behind a Cisco PIX firewall and a Cabletron switch connected to the campus fiber backbone and from there to the Internet. In the UNIX/ PC Lab, our user workstations for students provide 12 Sunblade 100s (one is handicapped accessible), 15 Dell Optiplex GX260s, and 5 Dell Optiplex 740s. This lab offers 24 hour access to students and also supports 2 networked HP 8150 printers. The Web Lab has 18 Dell Optiplex GX270s, a HP Laserjet 4300dtn printer and a HP Scanjet 3970 scanner. A staff of three full-time professionals and a varying number of student assistants operate the network and provide customer support to faculty, staff, and students. One faculty member serves as a lab systems director to supervise the full-time staff.
