Data Storage Administrator Position
Posted On: March 20, 2008 Company: Commonweatlh of Massachusetts, Information Technology Division Job Title: Data Storage Administrator Description: The incumbent of this position acts as a Data Management Administrator within the Operations Service Bureau, Enterprise System Unit. Responsibilities:- Providing technical assistance and research for the Direct Access Storage Device (DASD) sub-system that contains the Commonwealth’s mission critical on-line file.
- Performing monitor, archive, data collection, report generation, recovery and backup duties for the DASD sub-system.
- Providing technical assistance for data recovery, problem determination, and preventive maintenance.
- Assisting with the formulation of storage systems scope and objectives through research, analysis, and fact-finding.
- Modifying data storage processing systems and procedures as directed.
- Providing technical assistance for planning, directing and monitoring data storage operations within the department.
- Providing technical as well as general support for data processing input/output control activities.
- Performing related technical duties as required.
- Some knowledge of standard office practices and procedures and the principles and techniques of office and administrative management.
- Ability to compose a variety of memoranda, correspondence and other written material on own initiative.
- Working knowledge of electronic data processing systems, including job control language and standard procedures.
- Working knowledge of data processing principles and techniques.
- Working knowledge of the applications for and use of data processing storage equipment and how to operate such equipment.
- Ability to conduct data processing surveys and advise superiors as to the needs and types of data processing storage equipment necessary to fulfill or upgrade the functions of the department.
- Some knowledge of the applications for and use of data processing storage equipment, including the capabilities and programming techniques of MVS mainframe storage equipment.
- Some knowledge of the procedures and techniques involved in designing, coding, testing, documenting and maintaining storage related utilities and programs written from detailed specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to make periodic oral or written reports on the status of work being performed, as necessary.
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree/experience or EMC storage certification.
