Posted On: March 20, 2008 Company: Commonweatlh of Massachusetts, Information Technology Division Job Title: Application Developer (2 positions) Description: The incumbent of this position acts as a APPLICATION DEVELOPER by performing activities related to the analysis, design, coding, testing, installation, and support of the assigned software application(s) in conformity with ITD standards and procedures and performing related duties as required. Understanding business owner’s needs, translating them into clear specifications, determining viable solutions, developing those solutions in an efficient manner, and insuring that the solution is correct are the key responsibilities of this role. Demonstrating service excellence, a pro-active and collaborative approach to service delivery, and a strong customer focus are all mandatory for the incumbent of this role. The Application Developer has a moderate to high level of analysis skills, a moderate to high level of technical and programming skills, and is expected to be able to sometimes work without close supervision. Responsibilities:- Design a solution that clearly addresses the business objectives identified. Create software architecture documents and models according to the development methodology. Utilize open source solutions and tools whenever appropriate and follow open standards.
- Ensure that work done meets customer business needs and will execute correctly and efficiently within a production environment by creating technical design artifacts, developing code with a moderate to high level of proficiency, creating data mover scripts(XOG),performing detailed and thorough testing and actively participate in walkthroughs of artifacts.
- Clearly and concisely communicate status of all assigned tasks to management and users according to published workflows.
- Foster and maintain good relationships with customers and ITD colleagues, and meet expected customer service levels
- A strong understanding of programming logic, XML, databases, and SQL
- Experience in software development
- Experience in the design and development of web applications.
- Development experience with two or more of the following technologies: Linux; PHP; Pearl; Javascript; C/C++; CGI; HTML; Apache/Apache API; MySQL.
- Software development background in both Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience with the Microsoft Windows operating system (Windows 95/98/ME/2000 or Windows NT)
- Results oriented with excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree/experience.
