Brandeis University's central IT department is searching for a linux Systems Engineer to join our team supporting our growing virtualized infrastructure. We are seeking energetic creative candidates who are looking for an opportunity to put their talent to use in a well funded cutting edge environment. In the last year we have rolled out Xensource and VMWare virtualization infrastructures, Cisco ACE content engine, jabber instant messenger , Zimbra collaboration suite, a 60 TB Compellent enterprise SAN and many other advanced technologies. Qualified candidates should posses advanced linux admin skills, a desire to learn & deploy new technologies and be prepared to show us what you can bring to the table.

We are located in Waltham MA at the cross roads of 95 and the Mass Pike. The Brandeis T-Stop on the commuter rail provides quick access from Porter Square and North Station.

Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer installs, configures, monitors, and administers computer systems that support university functions. Also works as a team to support the other members of the NetSys groups as needed. Acts as lead technologist in area of responsibility which includes acting as a high level support technician when needed. Manages central computer systems. Ensures system security, stability, and performance. Develops network security for the university community. Watches for and responds to unusual activity. Designs and architects new storage and information systems to support academic and administrative needs. Develops new systems, programs and applications for the university, as required. Responsible for providing support, advice, and coordination for system administrators in other departments.

Required Skills:

BA/BS required. Three-five years related experiences. Must be able to troubleshoot problems in multiple systems. Develop new systems in the face of interruptions. Intermediate/advanced UNIX/Linux administration skills. Track and communicate activities. Work with servers, equipment racks, and electrical systems.
