CityScope: panoramic images in Berlin

This web site is constantly changing, so I'm giving up trying to wet your appetite by describing what's on the site. The site is now partially in English and if you look around it you will find all kinds of interesting panoramic photographs, web cams, and assorted Quicktime movies and other gizmos, most of which aim to document various rebuilding efforts in Berlin, such as the new Sony Center etc. CityScope started its life when construction began after German reunification and Berlin, for a while, was Europe's biggest construction site.

[Picture of German high speed train]The German Way And More (in English)

Hyde Flippo, a former German teacher and author of the book The German Way, offers a wealth of information, including a special page of teaching resources. Read about the Autobahn, German beer, TV, banking, movies, education and more. Several pages of photos of contemporary Germany (this one shows a German high speed train) and a large link collection round out the offering. Highly recommended!

[Trabbi - East German car model]The Trabi (in English)

The Trabant, affectionally called 'Trabi,' was one of only two car models available in former East Germany. Typically one ordered the car at age 18 (upon getting a driver's license) and then held on to the precious order confirmation for more then ten years before one could call a car ones own. With Germany's reunification the Trabi became a nostalgic collector's item, with about 40,000 cars still on the road - many of them heavily modified to attract attention. Check out the original brochures

Noticeable on Berlin's streets is Mercedes' city car, the Smart. A real eye-catcher!
