Math 114Q Fall 2008: Homework 7

Due in class Thursday, November 13.

Term paper. A typed outline of your paper (or a rough draft, if you have made it this far). This should include a tentative organization of the paper, a list of carefully formulated questions about your topic and any preliminary conclusions you have come to.
Since you should be analyzing data yourselves, not just reporting data you find on the web, you will need to put your data in a spreadsheet. Submit printouts of the spreadsheet with the data you have gathered so far, with sources clearly specified.
Common Sense, problem 11.1: Compare electricity cost in England in 2005 (date of the sample Tamworth bill) to the cost where you live today.
- If you have a currect electric bill it will tell you the cost of electricity in $/kwh. If you don't, try to find out from your electric company. Perhaps their web site has that information.
- To convert the Tamworth bill's 0.0735 pounds/kwh to current \$/kwh you will have to find out what the British pound currency conversion rate was in 2005, and then take inflation into account.
