Sound2Sight

Helping people communicate

If you're hard of hearing Sound2Sight can help you.

Start our Sound2Sight software on your palmtop, tell it what the conversation is about, and turn on the microphone. When you're unsure of a word you've not quite heard or lipread, glance down at the screen, where Sound2Sight will show it to you - or spell it phonetically if it can't figure it out.

Sound2Sight is being developed using open source components by teams of Computer Science Master's degree students at UMass Boston.

Dr. Joan Bolker's envisions a device that will eventually be able to transcribe the speech of any speaker with speed and accuracy, no matter what language or accent they speak with. Ignoring background noise and responding only to the speaker at hand, such a device would be a true help to those who walk in her shoes, the shoes of the hearing impaired.
