In terms of group
organization, the following decisions were agreed to:
Jeffrey Levetin and Gabriel Rodriguez will act as assistant group leaders.
Yun Xu will act as group Web master.
All essential group communication
will be done via email or through a group forum, which must be petitioned.
Prof. Bolker will check for the possibility of assigning a project account set
on the UNIX machines which mimic the functionality of class accounts & mailing
lists.
All major tasks will be assigned in
pairs. The group will be subdivided into two teams with each team responsible
for finishing the assigned task. The fifth member of the group will serve as
project manager for both teams and help with design, code review,
administration, interfacing, integration and making sure that the overall
project is on schedule. The fifth member could also become the 3rd coder on a
team if the need arises.
The subdivision of the group into
teams will depend on the skill set requirement of the problem. The two people
most suited to solve the problem will make the sub teams. This leads to
efficiency and reduces the communication and coordination overhead associated
with larger team sizes.
If interested, all members can serve
as observers on a team in order to learn a new skill or share the experience of
solving an important problem.
Jeffrey Levetin
will apply for a group forum.
Gabriel Rodriguez will keep a log of
all group email until the group forum is accessible.
