Visual Scanning Strategies Marc Pomplun Visual Attention Lab Department of Computer Science UMass Boston In which manner do we visually scan our environment? What are the mechanisms that control our eye movements when we inspect a scene or perform a visual task? I will present eye movement studies in comparative visual and visual tagging tasks that identify some of the factors determining our scanning behavior. A variety of computational models of visual scanning are developed and empirically tested. The results of this analysis yield insight into basic mechanisms of eye-movement control.
