What's with the calls to "enlist" during war-related arguments?

Every once in a while, when discussing America's foreign wars, one side (usually -- the anti-war) will blast those defending the pro-war arguments for not enlisting personally.

Putting aside the actual dominant party affiliation of the US military (overwhelmingly Conservative according to stats.org, armytimes.com, and USA Today), what do these people really mean?

All I can see in their rhetoric is that, according to them, only people in the military are entitled to an opinion on foreign policy. Unless, of course, the opinion agrees with theirs, in which case an exception is granted.

The scariest part is, these are, quite often, the same people lamenting the supposedly "growing Fascism" in America. Evidently, they would not know Fascism even if it slapped their faces with brass knuckles...
