I am a second year Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science at University of Massachusetts, Boston. I am working with Prof. Dan A.Simovici. My research interests include Incremental Clustering in Data Mining, Machine Learning and Semantic Modeling in Databases. In Data Mining, my main focus is on developing clustering algorithms for improving the stability of clusters relative to the ordering of the instances and to make clusters as pure as possible in terms of class distribution provided by labeled data. Recently I coauthored a paper (accepted at EGC 2005, Paris, France.) with my advisor Prof. Simovici, in which we proposed a metric incremental clustering algorithm, AMICA for clustering nominal data that is based on a metric on the set of partitions of a finite set of objects.
Apart from this I am a member of the Data Mining research group. We have a weekly seminar to discuss our research issues. Recently I have been exploring scaling issues in the clustering of genetic codes.
Prior to coming to UMB, I completed my Masters degree in Computer Science and Information Technology from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur where I spent some of the best years of my life. My research advisor was Prof. A.K Majumdar and we designed a state - based data model for dynamic objects to provide content-based access to the data. The focus was on the spatial and temporal relations among the domain objects to capture the semantics of video data. The final phase included the design and implementation of a GUI based client - server application for interactive query processing and information retrieval.
