Here is a brief README as to what I did.

1) I changed Laurentiu's files, putting comments where I changed them. The change I remember was to get rid of bold on Chapter titles; there were several others. I left the old files, they're the files with the .bak suffix, if you want to look at them.

2) The biggest problem I remmeber was getting the Table of Contents and other Tables to look correct. Specifically adding headings. I couldn't quickly think of a way to do this so I used a real hack. After everything was the way I wanted, except for the headings, I added the line:

\nofiles
% Here is the line for .toc
%\contentsline {chapter} {CHAPTER \hskip 4.5in PAGE}{}
% Here is the line for lof
%\contentsline {chapter} {FIGURE \hskip 4.7in PAGE} {}
% Here is the line for lot
%\contentsline {chapter} {TABLES \hskip 4.7in PAGE} {}

the other lines commented out above were put in the appropriate places in the various files noted. Yes, putting them in was trial and error, although with a little counting not too bad.

You just put them in the appropriate files and re-texify your tex files. The \nofiles will not create a new TOC, etc. So it will merely change it by adding the headings you hacked in.

OK, that's what I did. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. If I remember, I'll be happy to tell you.

Oh, I hope you're defending your dissertation soon, i.e. before whatever the date is in April so you can graduate in June. Otherwise, I hope you're not in a hurry because it took my until November to get everything done. Happily, the people I had to deal with, including the registrar, were very helpful but the wheels do grind exceeding slow.

rick butterworth
