XUEDONG CHEN

Hi, my name is Xuedong Chen. I am from mainland China. My first name might be too hard for you to pronounce, don't worry, you can just call me "Cheng", which is my favorite nickname. I was born in Hefei in Anhui Province, which is famous for having the Mt. Huangshan and the Yangtze River.

I am currently a Ph. D. candidate at Computer Science Department, UMass Boston (UMB). My advisor is Prof. Patrick O'Neil. And my current research interests are Data Warehousing and OLAP.  I had spent much time on Data Mining research and attended the Data Mining Seminars supervised by Prof. Dan Simovici, who had spent a lot of precious time in advising me.

I came to UMass Boston right after I got my Master's Degree of Information Systems from College of Engineering, Northeastern University in 2002. During past few years, I did six-month internship in Infoboard of BiznessOnline, where I worked as a web developer. In summer 2001, I did three-month internship as a ClearCase developer in the ClearCase department of the Rational Software (now belongs to IBM). While in Northeastern University, I was the leading developer for University Mail Services (UMS) database system supervised by James Devine.

I am now a full-time Sports Coaching Software Engineer at XOS Tech in MA.

Prior to coming to United States, I received my bachelor degree in Applied Physics and worked as an advisor for new college students in Physics department in Anhui University. I was also an instructor for "College Physics" and "Introduction and Application of Computer System" courses. Meanwhile, I supervised the Computing Center of Physics department, administrating a Novell network and a WinNT network with more than sixty PCs in total.

My most favorite sport is tennis; you may find some useful web links from this website. While in UMass Boston, I usually play with guys from the UMB Men's Tennis team even though I can't join the team due to not being a UMB undergraduate student. I was also a good table tennis player and had won many championships while I was in high school and college. As a college student at Ahui University, I served as the captain of department volleyball team and won three times University Championships. Here in Boston, I used to play soccer and was a member of TNT soccer team. Here is the backfield position I was responsible.  You may wonder I must like ball games only, as a matter of fact, I like swimming, inline skating, hiking etc.

Dancing is my most favorite entertainment. From Modern Standard to Latin or even Disco, I enjoy all of them. My wife is always my favorite dancing partner. She can catch up my rhythm naturally. I once coached five couples of students to participate the University Annual Show in Anhui University, and here is the photo right after the show.

Well, do you know me better now? Have fun in my cozy web home!
