Using Putty Tunnels

Putty is a free Windows program that provides SSH access to any host providing SSH service.

Use Putty to connect to users.cs.umb.edu or users1.cs.umb.edu  or ... on port 22

Go to Connection -> SSH -> Tunnels, and add the following:

Source Port: 8000

Destination: pe07.cs.umb.edu:80

Click Add and see:

Once you create these, go back to Session, listed at the top of the left-hand part of this window, name the new saved-session tunnel

Click save to save the session:

 

Now click Open to connect to users and log in. Let that window hang. I like to make it small to make it obvious that it’s not for ordinary use:

To test the tunnel, browse to localhost:8000 and see:
