[MassHistPres] Communication with Local Historic District Residents/Property Owners

All,

>From the perspective of someone who submits proposals to historic
commissions and owns an 1887 victorian (that's not a registered property) I
love getting access to information on building details that were used when
my house was built and even better is getting information specifically
about my house. There are a few commissions that provide information on
things that were done in the day, specific paint colors, architectural
millwork suppliers etc. I was hooked when I figured out what color my
sidewall shingles were originally thanks to doing a little focused
demolition and my wife (a nurse) is now enamored with 12 over 12 double
hung windows and can't fathom why someone would replace an original window,
knock off dental molding or not install decorative corbels on new buildings.

My point is that all of the commission members (nearly all) are amazing
resources and when presented that way people are more likely to fall
further in love with their house and look for assistance instead of always
worrying that they will be told no you can't do something.

Many Thanks,
Garrett Laws
