In Mendon the Historic District doesn’t charge a fee. We felt that the added district process was enough of a burden we didn’t want to add more to the residents. However we don’t get more than 5-10 per year.
We do charge a fee for demo delay review since that is often a developer applying. The fee is just the actual cost of the newspaper ad for the public hearing (usually $150-200) and the actual cost to mail the notices ($5-$10), so we’re just covering our costs.

Subject: [MassHistPres] Fee for HD Applications?
CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the Town of Mendon mail system. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.
How many towns out there charge an Application fee to obtain a Certificate and what is the amount? If a project requires more than one Application do you charge multiple fees? Each one the same? Where does the money from the fees go?
Do any towns request town funding or use Application fees to have continuing education or educational programs related to Historic Preservation?
