PhD Opening

The Graphics and Virtual Environments Lab at the Computer Science Department at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, USA has 1 immediate PhD opening. We are looking for a PhD student passionate about conducting research in Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Virtual/Augmented Reality, 3D printing and other related fields.




Recent international PhD graduates from our department have received job offers from Google, Facebook and Amazon in USA, and have landed faculty positions in universities in USA and around the world.

If you plan to visit our group (whether you are from US / overseas), please email me about your background and research interests. Please also include your CV. Please note that I generally don't have funding for visitors.

Honors Thesis / Independent Study (for UMB Students)

UMB students in my class: if you are interested in doing research with me, please come talk to me during my office hours.

If you want to do an Honors Thesis / independent study with me, please email me. Let me know about your interests. You must have strong mathematics and programming background. Preferably, you should have taken the computer graphics / computer vision / game programming course, or you should have strong passion and background in these topics. If you do an independent study with me, you will be enrolled in the independent study course CS478 for 3 credits. You will be working intensively on a research project for a semester under my guidance.

Other Info

While I expect you to have a good command of English, FYI, I speak fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese. We can speak any of these languages during our discussion, whatever works.

You are strongly encouraged to check out the MakeSpace on the 3/F of the Science Building. There you can access many 3D printers / Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality devices (e.g., HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Microsoft Hololens) for FREE. You can make use of these cool devices to work out some creative projects.
