No Class 27 – I was incapacitated. Tom the tutor met with them to continue work on false positives and contingency tables.

I did that again today, working with the Strogatz breast cancer test example from the text. I tried out drawing the two way table without numbers, using areas that represented proportions (approximately). I should probably put an example like that in the text.

For review, one student asked about “mean, median, mode in Excel” so we did yet another of those – made up a four bar histogram purporting to describe student loans. I suggested that they start this problem on the exam with the explicit statement

I will not be able to use =AVERAGE and =MEDIAN from Excel.

That smacks a bit of my teaching to the test…
