These pages provides some insight into the working environment that I fostered while teaching chemistry labs at the University of California. The pages feature comments that were gathered from the many hundreds of student evaluations of my teaching. They are meant to reflect the goals that I set for the lab course. In short, I attempted to provide an atmosphere where serious learning would take place, while still being enjoyable. Students were not inhibited in seeking help when they needed it, though challenged to reach their potential. While these comments may not be the "average" response, they are certainly not atypical.
