COURSE DESCRIPTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will work together in groups no larger than four on semester-long projects, particular to their track. Throughout the semester, students will meet the instructor and other student groups to discuss, present, and evaluate each other’s projects. Students will deliver a product that is appropriate to their track in the IT program. At the end of the semester, students report on their product through oral presentations, live demonstrations, and in writing.

GOALS

The goal of this course is for students to undertake projects that demonstrate their ability to self-manage, work with team members and perform the type of tasks they will be exposed to in their professional environment. These projects can be hardware based, software based, business based or a combination of any or all of the above. This course is the final course in the IT program and builds on all of the learning and experiences the student has had over the course of their academic career and their life. It is intended to be very multi-disciplinary. Whatever you want to work on (within the discipline) can be an acceptable project.

COURSE WORK

There will be bi-weekly progress report. There will be structured discussions and exercises every two weeks. Each team is required to submit the presentation on Friday, prior the discussion day (G-drive will be provided) There will be an epic semester-length project with sensible milestones, and at least one final presentation per student/team. There will be a 20-page final paper per student/team. The paper must at least have a design, an implementation, and an operation section. There will NOT be a mid-term exam or a final exam.

GRADING

Grading: Grade will be made up from bi-weekly progress reports (30%), in-class discussion (10%), group project final presentation (30%), and final paper (30%). Students are encouraged to read other material to improve their knowledge, but the project must cover key factors listed in the project description. I do not give incompletes. If you have any concern, please come and see me.
