Associate Professor of Computer Science Daniel Haehn has been invited to serve as the faculty keynote speaker for the 2027 Massachusetts Undergraduate Research Conference (MassURC), taking place on April 16, 2027, at UMass Amherst.

MassURC brings together more than 1,000 undergraduate students and faculty from public colleges and universities across Massachusetts to celebrate and showcase undergraduate research. Haehn was invited in recognition of his work in machine learning, computer vision, and artificial intelligence, as well as his contributions to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and undergraduate mentorship at UMass Boston.

A strong advocate for undergraduate research, Haehn has involved undergraduate students directly in publishable research throughout his time at UMass Boston. His research has resulted in 12 peer-reviewed publications co-authored by undergraduate students, including 7 publications with undergraduate students as first authors. In addition, through the STEMPOWER Fellowship that Haehn organizes, which connects undergraduate researchers with faculty mentors across UMass Boston and UMass Amherst, the program has enabled more than 10 additional undergraduate co-authored publications.
